GIRL'S LEADERSHIP

#MyVoiceMyPower

THE PROJECT

Girls Leadership is a national non-profit organization with a mission to empower young girls through programs grounded in social-emotional learning. To help convey this mission, the goal was to create a campaign to show the importance of the power of voice in girls.

What happens to girls around the ages of 11-13? From strong confident females, who are outspoken about their achievements and opinions, they suddenly fall silent.

Research shows that, around this age, girls experience a huge decrease in body satisfaction, confidence and VOICE. They are consumed with playing the never-ending game of trying to second guess what people want them to say, think, or do. But this doesn’t just last for a couple of years. It can last a lifetime.

This video is about empowerment, via a journey of self-discovery. We brought together over 40 real women from 13-83 who had never met before. And interviewed them in peer groups. Our production team produced this remotely from another room in-studio, to support a comfortable and nurturing environment for dialogue with no crew present.

They participants were not told what organization the video would be representing, but only that they would sharing stories about their voice to others. We talked about what it means to have a voice, and the damage it can do when that voice is not used.

The result was an emotionally-driven story with heart, rawness and a clear sisterhood that united the women in making themselves vulnerable and sharing their advice for all the women out there. Your voice has power.
